Living in a city has its perks, however, air pollution is not one of them. Did you know that your home is just as prone to air pollution as the outside? You need a central air purifier. Badly ventilated homes can put you and your family at risk to bad indoor air quality, which can cause short- and long-term health issues. Polluted air can enter your home through a myriad of ways; such as: infiltration (where pollution can seep into your home through cracks, windows and doors), natural ventilation (which occurs due to the natural temperature difference between the inside of your home and the outside winds), and mechanical ventilation (caused by fans removing indoor air and replacing it with conditioned outdoor air).

Air Cleaning Systems Benefits: Having a proper air ventilation system in your home greatly benefits those with health problems (such as asthma), combats sneezing and congestion, reduces home odors due to buildup of pollen and mold, and increases the cleanliness of your home by reducing the amount of dust.

Signs You Need a Better Air Filtration System: You can tell it is time to install an air filtration system if:

  • Someone with health conditions such as asthma or allergies is always sneezing, wheezing, coughing or has trouble breathing as easily in your home
  • If you or any others experience headaches, congestion, sneezing or coughing while at your home
  • Your home has a lot of dust regardless of consistent cleaning
  • Your home has an unpleasant odor
  • If anyone in your home smokes, or if you have any pets living in your home

WHICH AIR FILTRATION SYSTEM IS RIGHT FOR MY HOME?

Pollution in your home’s air may be controlled with a whole-house air filtration system. Additionally, you may be able to give relief to anyone in the family who has asthma or allergies.

High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filters: HEPA filters are frequently found in places such as hospitals and science labs, where meticulous air cleaning systems are necessary. This filtration system is highly efficient, eliminating 97 – 99% of particles such as pollen and dust. However, due to its high filtration, HEPA filters may affect the airflow in your home. It is advised that you get proper consultation from heating and air conditioning experts like us at ThermEnergy before committing to a HEPA filter.

Media Filters: This filtration system is made up of stacked filtration media, which screens out air impurities more effectively than the traditional fiberglass filters. Media filters are often much larger than basic air filters and can last and work for longer as well. Although this filtration system is effective, it also requires installation by trusted experts to ensure there is no damage to your home’s ductwork; these filters will need to be replaced every year.

Electrostatic Filters: These washable furnace filters are an option for customers who do not wish to replace their air purification filters every few months. Electrostatic Filters are also a cheaper option, as they do not ever need to be replaced. However, these filters are not as effective at screening out larger air particles from entering your home. This filtration system also hinders air flow in your home, meaning your air-cooling systems will have to run more to achieve the same amount of cooling.

THREE STEP FILTRATION PROCESS:

Step 1: Carbon pre-filter – The low-cost carbon pre-filter eliminates bigger particles from the air, extending the HEPA filter’s life.

Step 2: HEPA – The HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles with a diameter of 0.3 microns or greater. After then, the air is filtered again in the third step.

Step 3: Inner Charcoal Filter – The inner charcoal filter is 1/2 inch thick, providing ample of surface area for eliminating toxins and smells from the air.

DO WHOLE HOME AIR PURIFICATION SYSTEMS WORK?

HEPA and media Air filtration systems act as a whole home air purifier and work by first trapping particles from circulating air in an air filter, the finer the air filter the higher the filtration of air impurities. Whereas, electrostatic filters trap air particles in a fan, where the filter then charges the particles with voltage wires, where precipitating cells then move an opposite electrical charge to attract particles as air seeps through the electrostatic filer’s plates.
